Here are things I've picked up here and there to pass on to others. I'm not directly involved with rescue at this time, but hope to help with information distribution and other efforts.

Laura Maloney, director of the LASPCA put out a press release giving the following information to those needing animals left behind checked on. The LASPCA is working with the LSU vet clinic and the Dept. of Agriculture in Baton Rouge.

If you have animals at home, you may call the following number and give them the following information:

225-578-6111

- Your name
- Address where animals are confined
- Species
- # of animals
- When you would expect food/water to have run out

Perhaps you are in an area where residents have evacuated. If so, please get the info to shelters or perhaps the local radio and/or news stations, and the local newspapers.

Animals will be taken to the Lamar Dixon Animal Shelter in Houston. You will need to go there to identify your animal.

(source: email being passed around, and also I called the number to report some neighbors animals for them).

Another number I heard recently on CNN is 1-800-HUMANE1 to get help

All the animals left in the Superdome have been picked up and brought to the shelter that has been set up.

You can get great ACCURATE info at http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=hurricane_home

http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=hurricane_diary. check this out for a great running account of rescue efforts

I checked this out and it contains good info on animal rescue and who to contact to find your animals.

I have heard of other efforts from ASPCA, Noah's Ark, and Animal Planet.
If you need assistance with animals you evacuated with, contact local rescue groups in your area.
