I gave my cat a bath the other day.
He sat there, he enjoyed it, it was fun for me.
The fur would stick to my tongue, but other than that . . .

GREETINGS

You are receiving this email because you are listed in the Animal Resource Directory – www.animalfocusnetwork.org. Please check the accuracy of your listing (use the "BY NAME" tab). If you need me to change/add anything, just email me and I'll update it. You can also send changes any time in the future. I update the online database regularly at least once a month.

I hope you find the website helpful and easy to use. I appreciate suggestions, observations and ideas. There are still many things I want to do to enhance the searches and I know there are things I have missed.

Thank you for your encouragement, enthusiasm, patience and input. Together we can.

Namasté,
Diana Thornton

WHAT'S NEW

Directory Improvements

The Animal Resource Directory has been LIVE since January 1, 2005. We are constantly adding to and updating the database and improving the interface.

The By Need search tab has been redesigned to accommodate the growing list of categories. Since I started, I’ve added almost a dozen new categories (see complete list to the right), and even I was having trouble navigating that page. Check out some of our helpful categories such as: Books, Pet travel, special needs animals, Santa pet photos, etc.

Adding Breed Specific rescue organizations located throughout the southeast.

Added a “Map” link to generate a Yahoo map of the address for each listing.

Seeking Volunteers to research new listings and confirm existing listings for the Directory. If interested, please email me at info@animalfocusnetwork.org

Submit new listings or changes to: info@animalfocusnetwork.org.

NOTES FROM THE NEST

Dexter's Story

Dexter is sort of my mascot. He was my inspiration to foster kittens, and subsequently all my work with animal rescue and creating the resource directory. For those who don't know Dexter's story…

In 1997 I was at the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter when a woman walked in with a shoebox. In the box was a week-old kitten. The shelter attendant told the woman that the kitten would be put to sleep immediately if she left it because they didn’t have the resources to bottle feed.

WORDS OF WISDOM

Starfish

A woman was walking along a beach filled with starfish. As she walked, she would stoop down, pick one up at random, and throw it back into the ocean. A man came upon her and asked why she was bothering with throwing some back when there were so many--how could it possibly make a difference? She picked up another starfish, threw it back into the ocean, and said it made a difference to that one.

BOOK REVIEW

Hiss and Tell
True stories from the files of a cat shrink

by Pam Johnson-Bennett

One of my favorite books. She has a whole series of cat psychology case study books. Delightful to read. Very educational.

Meet Mambo, the cat who attacks his owner, but only on Sundays, and Bonsai, the cat whose dislike for the new boyfriend becomes very embarrassing. What secret does Freddie know about his owner's new wife? In this offbeat and illuminating book, feline behaviorist Pam Johnson-Bennett, takes you on the wildest house calls of her career. These stories-each of which unfolds like a mystery-will help owners better understand the ever fascinating cat psyche. Pam Johnson-Bennett sheds light on the communication breakdowns between cats and their humans.

Animal Focus Network does not work directly with animals. Diana, on the other hand, fosters kittens full time through the Friends of the Jefferson Animal Shelter (150+ kittens and counting) and works with several other animal welfare groups. She is an award-winning graphic designer in the music industry and owns Crescent Music Services, a CD/DVD design and manufacturing company in New Orleans.
